CHAD MOORE NAMED KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR LIGHT CONGRESS 2005
Highly Regarded National Parks Scientist to Lead-off Distinguished Event Panels

New York, NY ---
Chadwick A. Moore of the National Parks Service has been named the keynote speaker at LIGHTCongress 2005. He will lead yet another distinguished panel of experts at the world’s leading technology forum for the lighting industry.

“125 years after Edison’s light bulb, we have long since mastered the primary needs and wishes for lighting,” said Moore. “The task at hand is how to apply lighting technology befittingly, how to cultivate inspiration and serenity, and conserve resources before we are forced to by dire circumstance or revolt. On being named the events keynote speaker he added, “And it is a privilege to join the LIGHTCongress fraternity to discuss these issues as they’re brought to the forefront.”

Jeff Johnston, CEO of Greystone Partners, organizers of the event added, “Chad is marvelous addition to the line of distinguished speakers that have participated in LIGHTCongress. Our firm’s involvement with the National Parks Service in recent years has furthered our appreciation of his work and the value it and the NPS provide to us all as protectors of our national heritage.”
As light pollution garners more and more public interest, Mr. Moore’s work has taken on new relevance in public and media circles. As a physical scientist for the NPS and leader of the NPS Night Sky Team at Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah, his principle job is measuring light pollution in our national parks. This is the only project of its kind in North America. His findings have attracted national media attention, and offer insights into much broader ramifications in both indoor and outdoor lighting and the affects of our ever-shrinking land and nightscapes.

The keynote address by Mr. Moore is the first presentation during LIGHTCongress, slated for February 16, 2005. Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. at the Grand Hyatt at Grand Central in New York. For registration information and scheduling, visit www.lightcongress.com

POUGHKEEPSIE PR FIRM HOSTS WORLD MEDIA FORUM FOR
THE LIGHTING INDUSTRY

LIGHTCongress 2005 Reveals Increased Expectations for LED-based Lighting; Announces Important New Technologies and Alliances

NEW YORK -- (February 21, 2005) - The future of Light Emitting Diode (LED)-based lighting was the main topic of discussion at LIGHTCongress 2005, the third annual invitation-only lighting forum that brought together today's lighting leaders and newcomers, industry experts and lighting designers, architects, and specifiers at the Grand Hyatt in New York City. The forum focused on current opportunities and challenges affecting LED solid-state lighting, energy conservation and environmental issues affecting the lighting industry and current and future lighting trends, product innovations and applications.

Sponsored by lighting leader OSRAM SYLVANIA, LIGHTCongress 2005 included three significant panels as well as a keynote speech by Chadwick Moore of the U.S. National Park Service and comments from Wendy Reed of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Moore's well received keynote focused on the loss of night skies due to light pollution, and the role of responsible manufacturing in the preservation of this valuable resource. Wendy Reed's address centered on the acceptance of the Energy Star label among consumers, and congratulated manufacturers like SYLVANIA for their commitment to the Energy Star program.

The day's panels included LEDs, Energy and the Environment and Designs & Trends Shaping the Future.

"Unlike any other forum, LIGHTCongress 2005 successfully encouraged lighting rivals to come together as colleagues with respected lighting authorities and lighting designers in the field to explore global lighting innovation today, while being cognizant of the environmental and energy concerns driving the industry," said J. Jeffrey Johnston, CEO of Greystone Partners, hosts of the event. "The lighting industry is clearly on the cusp of redefining the concept of lighting and lighting design as we know it."

Highlights of LIGHTCongress 2005 included:
" Experts reported that Light Emitting Diode (LED) solid-state lighting would not immediately replace the incandescent light bulb, however, it was expected to save $30-70 billion in energy costs per year by 2020, while dropping in price by 10 times per decade.
" The rush to adopt LED-based lighting was happening faster than many in the lighting industry expected. According to LED moderator Dr. N. Narendran, Director of Research of the Lighting Research Center, RPI. "The innovation in the increased LED output and long life were being propelled by the electronic and automotive industries, which moved at lightning speed."
" The challenges slowing down the adoption of LED lighting was the cost per LED that is coming down with increased volume, and the high brightness light output from LEDs that were improving from accent lighting to task and general lighting.
" Many lighting designers reinterpreted the use of LED-based lighting. Claiming it could be a substitute for paint in retail and in entertainment applications and would eventually appear in homes.

" Peter Jacobson a Lighting Specialist at Con Edison and moderator on the Environment & Energy panel pointed out that most of the public is aware of and approves of labeling lighting similar to that of food.
" The Energy Star Award program that acknowledged company innovators in conserving energy and developing energy efficient products was now recognized by 60 percent of Americans nationwide.

" Future trends in lighting designs, moderated by Leni Schwendinger of Light Projects LTD, revealed that some museums were rejecting lighting innovations and reintroducing completely natural lighting into their galleries.
" Lighting innovator Phoster Lighting debuted their new corporate identity at LIGHTCongress, as well as participated in the Trends panel.
" A new lighting technology called Light Emitting Capacitor (LEC) was previewed by lighting newcomer CeeLite. Flat, flexible and paper-thin, this lighting technology, with dimming, fading, flashing standard features, is making it possible to wrap light around columns, on floors and soon within wallpaper.

"LIGHTCongress 2005 offered a refreshing opportunity to explore the lighting applications never thought possible in the past and the policy issues influencing our industry today," said Ron O'Brien, Director of Corporate Communications of OSRAM SYLVANIA and Master of Ceremonies of LIGHTCongress 2005. "It also provided a reality check that we need to challenge ourselves and colleagues to continue to develop energy-efficient lighting and to continue to educate the public about all the strides we're collectively making in our manufacturing processes to better protect the environment."
