From the pundits to the politicians today’s buzz phrases are global warming, save the future, new technologies. This insightful panel will clearly illustrate that another favorite phrase, carbon footprint, is as much, or more, about waste and inefficiency as it is about outdated technologies. Our speakers will clearly define the realities with some very enlightening, and surprising facts, figures, and solutions from products, designs and systems to energy usage and waste.

3:45 p.m. - Panel 2 - The Human Ecology

Daylight is a key driver to our human ecology, and as a stimulus, it affects both our psychology and physiology. With the ever increasing global need to reduce energy consumption in the built environment, the design community is now turning to daylight as an important source for building illumination. Architectural design is trending to combine effective daylighting techniques with efficient light and power sources to reduce carbon footprint exponentially. Also, the effective use of daylight can improve human health and is also one of the most significant methods in which we can return to a zero-carbon footprint for modern architecture.

Moderator: Neall Digert, PhD, MIES, Solatube
